Difference Yugas or Ages

As per the religion, there are four yugas: Satyuga: Also called Adi Yuga, the Satyuga makes the beginning of the human civilisation. Of the four yugas, it is considered the most glorious for its splendid qualities. During this age there were no concepts of towns and villages. Meditation and worship was the dominant feature of this age.

Tretayuga: This Yuga enjoys the second position in the order of sequence as well as glory. The ruling quality marked this age. During this age the towns and villages were established and people had started living a social life.

The sacrifices or yagya gained in importance much more than that of meditation. Dwaparyuga: The word ‘dwapar’ literally means doubt. During this age the feeling of doubt developed in mankind and hence men became sceptic.

Yoga was given due importance. Meditation, tapa and sacrifices were gradually, replaced by the worship of Bhagvad Gita. Dwaparyuga ranks third among the yugas in the context of period as well as glory, Kaliyuga: The contemporary age is Kaliyuga, which is marked by selfishness.

Today the mankind is suffering from all sorts of weaknesses. Men have become fraud, cheat, selfish and unjust.

For this reason it comes last in the order of importance and glory among the four yugas. In the modern age satsang and sankirtan form the means of escape from divine punishment.
