Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand State is divided into two divisions namely Garhwal and Kumaon. Its High Court is in Nainital. It is the only state in India with Sanskrit as one of its Official Language. This is the state where two most important rivers originates, i.e, The Ganga at Gangotri and the Yamuna at Yamunotri. This state has the oldest National Park named Jim Corbett National Park. Name: Uttarakhand, earlier known as Uttaranchal, referred to the ‘Land of the Gods. Uttarakhand is a great pilgrimage centre and it is a major destination for Hindu Temples.

Existence: It came into existence 9th November 2000.

Boundary: It is surrounded by Tibet Autonomous Region, Nepal, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

Population: As per Census 2011, the total population of Uttarakhand is 10,116,752. Uttarakhand holds 19th rank in population wise.

Land Area: Its total Land Area is 53,484 sq. km. Uttarakhand holds 18th rank in area wise.

Language: Its Official Languages are Hindi and Sanskrit whereas Garhwali, Kumaoni also can be heard in Uttarakhand.

Literacy: Its Literacy Ratio is 79.63%

City: Its Capital City is Dehradun. Its largest city is also Dehradun.

District: Uttarakhand is divided into 13 districts.

Connectivity: This state is well connected via roadways, railways and airways. Its major airport is in Dehradun named Jolly Grant Airport.

Places of Interests: Uttarakhand is mainly known for its natural beauty of Himalayas, terrain etc.

Festivals: Vasant Panchami, Ghee Sankranti, Phul Dei etc. are the major festivals celebrated in Uttarakhand.

Religion: Most of the people in Uttarakhand follow Hinduism which is more than 88%. There are also other religions present in this state including Muslims, Jains, Christians, and Sikhs etc.
