Furious Mob

Last Monday I set out for my school. When I reached the bus stop, I found that I had missed my bus. There were many other people who were awaiting the arrival of the bus. Nobody had any idea that something was wrong and that something unpleasant might have occurred in the city.

After half an hour passed by, a bus arrived and we all boarded it. The conductor informed us that there was some disturbance anticipated in the interior regions of the city and he did not want to take the risk of driving the bus. However, most of the passengers persuaded him to drive the bus as they all wanted to reach their destination fast.

As the bus passed the railway station we found a big procession proceeding towards a place of worship that was built close to the station. The processionists were shouting anti-government slogans. The procession was of a mammoth dimension. The marchers were carrying placards shouting “Down with the p M”. Some of them were carrying bamboo sticks.

Others were charging around with hockey stacks and kirpans. The bus driver knew that if he moved any further, he would be butchered by the processionists. Yet he drove on. This provoked the processionists ire to a great degree.

They began to pelt stones at the bus and dragged the driver out of the bus. The passengers and I were looking at all this when all of a sudden a few stones hit the glasses of the bus and the splinters of glass spread all over the bus. Some people sitting next to the windows were hit and one lady began to bleed profusely from the head and soon she fainted. The mobs grew more and more furious.

Some people got off the bus and tried to persuade the processionists not to resort to violence. But they were beaten up badly and soon ran to find shelter somewhere close by. The mob began to pour kerosene on the bus and put it to fire. The so-called spectators dispersed in different directions.

The police hurled teargas shells to disperse the crowd. A severe clash occurred between the police and the processionists. Both started beating each other in the most inhuman way. The processionists gave vent to their feelings and innocent people became the victims of their wrath. The police found it difficult to control such a mob.

They sent a wireless message to their higher authorities to send more security personal. The police fired shots in the air yet the processionists continued with their march. The police finally opened fire which led to a two people losing their lives and quite a few were injured. Everybody was pain-stricken and this finally dispersed the crowd and the city limped back to normalcy.
