Sick In Bed

They say that “when money is lost, nothing is lost, when health is lost, something is lost, when character is lost, everything is lost.” There is no denying the importance of good health in our lives. When one falls sick, one realizes the fact that health is a great blessing and we must always take care of it.

We should abstain from all the things that cause illness. When one is ill, one does not enjoy anything. Comforts and luxuries begin to lose their meaning. All one wants is to be back on his feet again and relish the food that one likes.

When one is ill one loses interest in food too. Food tastes bitter as our taste buds often get effected during an illness. One becomes impatient with everyone around. One often throws tantrums like a child does. Medicines are detested and one feels like bringing out all that one eats.

Work begins to suffer as one cannot go to school or office as the case may be. It gets very lonely because one’s friends are all away at school and the only thing the sick person can do is lie in bed and rest. Even the radio and television tire the sick person and he prefers to be quiet and it is irritating to have people chattering and making any noise in the same room. The sick person feels envious of the healthy people who are going about their daily work as usual.

Illness can become a boon for students who are not prepared for their examinations. They can refrain from taking the exam and the school often considers a sick case sympathetically. It is illness alone that can keep a student away from the examination. Usually there is absolutely nothing else that can save him. Such students only feel sorry for themselves when they see their classmates enjoying themselves on the playground and also indoors.

The irony is the when one is sick one says “I’ll never drink cold water again, I’ll always protect myself from the cold, I’ll never eat anything bought at a street vendor’s shop.” But as soon as the illness is over, one goes back to the old way of life, neglects ones’s health and falls prey to ill health again.
