Archimedes
Archimedes (287-212 BC), Greek mathematician amongst his inventions was a spiral pump for raising water, known as Archimedes’ screw, which is still used today. Best remembered for his discovery of the principles of buoyancy, he is alleged to have leapt out of his bath, shouting “Eureka!” (“I’ve found it!”) When he first realized that his body displaced the water in the bath. He also invented war machines for the defense of Syracuse but was killed by a Roman soldier when the city was captured.
