Hilaire Belloc

Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953), Catholic writer of Anglo-French parentage, who became a British citizen in 1902.

He was a great friend of G. K. Chesterton and together they founded a weekly newspaper, the Eye-Witness. Belloc was a Liberal MP (1906-10) but was soon disillusioned with party politics. His works include poetry, such as the collection of humorous verse for children Cautionary Tales (1907), historical works, biographies, and travel books.
