Bela Bartok
Bela Bartok (1881-1945). Hungarian composer and pianist. Having first appeared in public at the age of ten, he became a concert pianist as a young man. While studying music in Budapest he developed an interest in Hungarian folk music, whose rhythms and melodies he incorporated into his concertos, songs, and choral music. His six string quartets are also of particular importance.
