Boadicea
Boadicea, Latin name of Boudicca (61 AD), Queen of the Iceni, a British tribe of East Anglia. Her husband King Prasutagus had allied himself with the Roman invaders, but after his death imperial officials annexed his lands and ill-treated Boadicea and her daughters. She roused her own and neighbouring peoples in revolt routed the Roman troops and sacked Colchester, London, and St Albans. Overwhelmed by the main Roman army, she poisoned herself to avoid capture.
