Confucius

Confucius, Chinese name Kung-Fu-Tzu (551-479). Chinese philosopher, whose doctrine of enlightened responsible rule has influenced government’s through-out the Far East. He taught that only concern for humanity, talent, and education qualified men for public office, birth being unimportant. Throughout his life Confucius tried unsuccessfully to obtain an administrative post where he could apply these principles, which were later made famous by his disciples and such publications as the Confucian Analects. His doctrine formed the foundation of the classical Chinese administrative system.
