Errol Flynn

Errol Flynn (1909-59). US actor, born in Tasmania, Australia, noted for his devil-may-care image and scandalous private life. After a varied and adventurous youth, Flynn arrived in Hollywood in 1934, where he found instant success in Captain Blood (1935). His other famous roles included the title character in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) and George Custer in They Died with Their Boots On (1941). Away from the screen, Flynn enjoyed a wild lifestyle characterized by drinking, brawling, and innumerable sexual conquests. In 1942 he was tried and acquitted of having underage sex with two teenage admirers. From the late 1940s his popularity declined and he became an alcoholic.
