Geronimo

Geronimo (1829-1908), Apache Indian leader. One of about 4000 Apaches who were forced to move to a reservation in central Arizona in 1874, he subsequently led them in a campaign against the white settlers. In 1885, together with over 100 Apaches, he jumped the reservation. After 15 months on the run Geronimo surrendered in 1886 on condition that his fellow Apaches should be allowed to return to their homes.
