Kamini Roy
Kamini Roy, 1864-1933, Bengali writer and philanthropist. Daughter of Chandi Charan Sen, a Brahmo, who was himself a noted writer, she had a brilliant educational career at the university. She became a teacher, in 1886 and took to writing. Her first book of poems Alo o Chaya night and Shade’) was pub-lished anonymously in 1889. She married at the age of 30 but lost her husband in 1909, and her eldest son in 1913. Her best work was Malya o Nirmalaya which secured for her a prominent place amongst Bengali writers. She had, however, to flourish under the shadow of Tagore.
