Lakshmi Sahgal

Lakshmi Sahgal, b. 1914- , .freedom-fighter. Originally Lakshmi Swaminathan, she was at Singapore during the Second World War, and organized the Rani Jhansi Regiment of Women for the INA under Subash Chandra Bose. She was captured on the fall of Singapore by the British and confined in Rangoon Jail. She was released after public agitation, but later again interned. She was released in 1946 and came to India where she married Captain Sehgal of the IN A.
