Sahib Kuar

Sahib Kuar, d. 1799, Sikh princess. Sister of Sahib’Singh, the ruler i of Patiala, she was married to Jaimal Singh of the Kanhiya Misl. She responded to the call of her brother who had been in difficulties and defeated his enemies, in about 1793, and the grateful brother made her his chief minister. She also fought valiantly with sword in hand against the Mahrathas (1794) and forced them to retreat. She later lost her influence with her brother because of the intrigues of his wife, Aus Kaur, and left Patiala in disgust and retreated to her fort at Bhirian. She was induced to return, but was captured and imprisoned, though she made a daring escape.
