Sahiji

 Sahiji, 17th cent., Mughal princess. A daughter of Ali Mardan Khan (d. 1657), a noble at the court of Shah Jahan, she was married to Amirkhan who was appointed the governor of Lahore by Aurangzeb in 1678. She acted as her husband’s adviser in subduing the Afghans. After the death of her husband, she herself took over the control for two years pending the arrival of the new governor. She was very kindly received by Aurangzeb and was permitted to proceed on pilgrimage to Mecca. She later returned to India and passed her days in religious devotions.
