Sarala Devi
Sarala Devi, 1904- , political and social worker. Born in an aristocratic family of Cuttack (Orissa) she was married in 1918 to a young nationalist lawyer, Bhagirathi Mohapatra. She was very active in the national movement in Orissa since 1920, and was also a member of Orissa Legislature from 1937 to 1944. She was a believer in traditional virtues and also worked for the uplift of the poor and the relief of the flood and famine stricken people. She is also the author of several books.
