Zinat-un-Nisa

Zinat-un-Nisa, 1643-1721, Mughal princess. Surnamed Padishah Begum, she was a daughter of Aurangzeb by Dilras Banu Begum, and was born at Aurangabad on 5 October 1643. She chose to remain unmmarried, but took her dowry from her father and spent it in building a mosque at Delhi, popularly called Kuari Masi& (`Maiden’s Mosque’) where she was buried. She devoted herself to the care of her father in his old age. The Mahratha captives, Sahu and his mother were also put under her charge, and she brought up Sahu with almost maternal care. She was noted for her piety. Her grave was removed by the British when they occupied the building.
