Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn (1907— ). US actress. A graduate of Bryn Mawr college, she made her stage debut in 1928 and her first film in 1932. She costarred with Spencer Tracy in State of the Union (1948) and many other films of the 1940s; the partnership was successfully revived in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967). Her other major films include The African Queen (1951), with Humphrey Bogart, The Lion in Winter (1968), in which she played Eleanor of Aquitaine, and On Golden Pond (1981). Hepburn has won a record four Oscars as Best Actress, as well as 13 nominations.
