Johannes Kepler

Johannes Kepler, (1571-1630). German mathematician and astronomer. He became lecturer in astronomy at the University of Gratz in 1594 and two years later he joined Tycho Brahe at Prague. Kepler succeeded Brahe as imperial mathematician and deduced his three laws of planetary motion from Brahe’s observations. New-ton later proved Kepler’s laws mathematically and used them as a basis for his laws of universal gravitation. Kepler also made important advances in the understanding of optics.
