Joe Louis
Joe Louis, full name Joseph Louis Barrow (1914-81). US boxer. World heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949, a record reign, he earned the nickname ‘The Brown Bomber’ for his ability to win by an early knockout with either hand. He retired while still champion but shortage of funds forced him to resume his career in 1950. He was only ever beaten three times.
