St Mark

St Mark, (fl. 1st century AD). New Testament figure. He accompanied Barnabas and St Paul on part of their first missionary journey but left them to return to Jerusalem. He is traditionally believed to be the compiler of the second Gospel, for which he may have drawn information from Peter, and to have founded the Christian Church in Alexandria.
