Sir Stanley Matthews
Sir Stanley Matthews, (1915- ). English footballer with a reputation for expert dribbling. The son of a barber, he was recruited by Stoke City while still in his teens. He played as a winger for Stoke and then Black-pool until the age of 50 and appeared 54 times for England. He was knighted in 1965, the year of his retirement.
