J.B. Priestley

Priestley, J(ohn) B(oynton) (1894-1984). British dramatist and novelist. Born in Yorkshire, he came to London in 1922 and soon became known as a critic and essayist. The Good Companions (1929), which tells of the adventures of a touring concert party, was his first popular novel. Later he wrote mainly dramas, including When We are Married (1939) and An Inspector Calls (1946), as well as producing and directing plays. He also became well known for his popular broadcasts during World War II.
