Praxiteles

Praxiteles (fl. 370-330 BC). Greek sculptor, one of the most famous of Greek artists. His works, with the exception of a fine marble Hermes at Olympia, survive only in Roman copies. One of the best known of these is the Aphrodite or Cnidos, which displays the sensuousness of form and flowing surfaces that characterized much of Praxiteles’s work and influenced Greek, Roman, and Renaissance sculpture.
