Rameses II

Rameses II (d. c. 1237 BC). King of Egypt from 1304 BC, who restored Egyptian influence after the disastrous reigns of Akhenaton and his successors. His campaigns in the Sudan, Libya, and Palestine protected Egypt’s frontiers and enabled him to undertake the building and restoration of her temples. He is thought to be the Pharaoh mentioned in Exodus as the oppressor of the Israelites.
