Erwin Rommel

Erwin Rommel, (1891-1944). German field marshal. He rose to the rank of captain in World War I, and at the start of World War II became commander of a tank vision. He was soon fighting in North Africa, where he earned the nickname ‘The Desert Fox’. He made major advances for Germany before his crucial defeat at El. Alamein (1942). Soon after the assassination attempt on’ Hitler (20 July 1944), it was discovered that Rommel had contacts with the conspirators. Although he had no active part in the plot, he was induced to commit suicide rather than stand trial.
