Spartacus

Spartacus (d. 71 BC) Thracian gladiator, who led a slave revolt against the Romans. In 73 BC he escaped from gladiatorial school with over 70 other gladiators and, joined by bands of slaves, reached Vesuvius. After re-sounding victories over Roman legions in southern and northern Italy he was finally defeated by Crassus and executed.
