Wat Tyler

Wat Tyler, (d. 1381). English rebel leader. In 1381 he led an uprising of peasants protesting against taxes, low wages, and the feudal system. They marched on Lon-don via Canterbury and camped on Blackheath, where they put forward their demands to King Richard II. Although Richard was sympathetic to their grievances, Tyler was murdered by the mayor of London and the rebels dispersed.
