Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

‘Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely? was remarked by Lord Acton, the Great British Historian.

It means that the ethical and moral values of a person decreases with steep rise in power. A person who has absolute authority may misuse his position.

As people become immensely powerful without any opposition, restriction or control, they may start losing integrity and moral value. They may start controlling the lives of other people according to their own whims and fancies. Such people may start behaving as if they are the master of the world.

Some people were very powerful in history. Everyone was bound to obey their orders. Of course, many people, in their initial stage, such people fought for virtuousness and justice. As the pride for the position become very great. They start believing that it is their right to get the things done in their own style. Such people cannot withstand opposition from any end.

Since, they fear none. They may start doing whatever they want to. Their behavior may become unrestricted and anti-social.

Hence, unrestrained and absolute power in the hands of one person is neither beneficial nor desirable for overall social well-being.
