Canute

Canute (995-1035), King of England, Denmark, and Norway. With his father, Sweyn , king of Denmark, he invaded England in 1013; the next year he succeeded his father as king of Anglo-Saxon Mercia and Northumbria. He soon extended his rule to the rest of England and in 1018 succeeded his brother as king of Denmark as well. He won the crown of Norway in 1030. He was a devout Christian and a popular ruler, but the union of the three countries did not continue after his death.
