Lad Malika

Lad Malika, fi. 16th cent., Afghan princess. She was originally the wife of Taj Khan Sarang Khani, the Afghan governor of the fort of Chunar. Because of her beauty, her co-wives hatched a plan to murder her, but her husband was killed instead. She was able to win the support of the nobles and soldiers, and took over the control of Chunar. Later on she married Sher Shah Suri (d. 1545) and Chunar, with its vast riches collected by her, came in his possession.
