Maham Begum

Maham Begum, 1506-1530, Mughal princess. Wife of Emperor Babar, whom she married in Herat, Afghanistan, in 1506, she is celebrated as the mother of Humayun (b. 6 March 1508). She had four other children who died in infancy. As mother of Babar’s eldest son she enjoyed supreme authority. She came to India after the victory of Babar and reached Agra on 27 June 1529 where Babar met her. She was also present by the side of Humayan dring his illness, and the death of Babar in December 1530 at Agra.
