Richard Rodgers
Richard Rodgers, (1902-79). US composer of musical comedies. With the librettist Lorenz Hart (1895-1943). he composed such popular musicals as Babes in Arms (1937), which includes the song The Lady is a Tramp’, and Pal Joey (1940). After Hart’s death, Rodgers began collaborating with Oscar Hammerstein II (1895-1960). Together they produced the immensely successful musicals Oklahoma! (1943), South Pacific (1949), The King and I (1951), and The Sound of Music (1959).
