Tutankhamen

Tutankhamen (c. 1370-1352 BC). King of Egypt. He became king at the age of nine and died suddenly nine years later. Tutankhamen’s tomb, the only Egyptian royal grave to escape looting by ancient tomb-robbers, was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922. Its wealth and splendour fascinated the world and brought posthumous fame to the young king. Amongst the treasures unearthed was the gold mask placed over the king’s head in his coffin. The mask is an actual portrait of Tutankhamen.
