Short Biography, Paragraph of “Edward the Black Prince” short paragraph for Class 12 and Graduate Classes

Edward the Black Prince

Edward the Black Prince nickname of Prince Edward (1330-76), Prince of Wales, whose nickname probably derived from his black armour. He commanded the right wing at Crecy (1346) and in 1355 took over the English forces in Aquitaine, capturing the French king at Poitiers (1356). His later campaigns as Prince of Aquitaine, and the consequent taxation, caused the local nobility to transfer their allegiance to the French king. Edward returned to England in ill-health in 1371 and retired from public life.
