A rolling stone gathers no moss

The term rolling stone stands for a person who is frequently changing his place or profession, just as a stone that is continually rolling does not gather any moss on it. Similarly, a person, who is constantly changing his occupation, does not succeed in making any achievement. Acquisition of wealth or learning or experience requires time and steady and prolonged application of energy to some task. People who succeeded in life are not necessarily extraordinarily gifted or brilliant; those who fail are not always dullards and dunces. The truth of the matter is that those, who are perseverant and patient, gain their objectives; whereas many brilliant men who want quick results are disappointed when success is slow in coming. Such men are impatient of delay and leave one job for another where they think they will achieve immediate success. It will be found that results are seldom, if ever, proportionate to our expectations or even efforts. Those who are not disappointed by the inadequacy of rewards and the slow pace of success eventually find that their efforts are bearing fruit: whereas those who jump from job to job succeed nowhere. It is, therefore, advisable that we should not be impatient of delay but work patiently and perseverantly. If we do this, we will find that our efforts are adequately rewarded.
