It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all
The above lines occur in Tennyson’s ‘In Memoriam’. They suggest that low aim and not failure is the crime. Very obviously those. who dare to conquer one of the highest peaks of the Himalayas and are not able to complete the conquest due to one reason or other, are far more virile and valiant than those cowards who sit and rot at home and wince at the various ideas of waging a battle against the inaccessible peak? Coming to Love, it is the greatest experience. One who has not been able to undergo it must be immature and raw, and deficient in initiative and character. So, in love failure does not matter. There is more enjoyment in the pursuit than in the arrival at the goal. If you don’t get the coveted object, at least the experience is yours and it is sure to endow your mind with more imagination and insight. Something is better than nothing. Practice pays more than theory.
