Badshah Begum
Badshah Begum, d. 1788-89, Mughal princess. Daughter of Emperor Farrukhsiyar (d. 1719) from his first wife, Fakhr-un-Nissa Begura, she was married to Emperor Muhammad Shah, then known as Roshan Akhtar, in 1720-1, and was designated Malika-uz-Zamani (`Queen of the Age’). She took a prominent part in securing the accession of her son, Ahmad Shah to the throne of Delhi, in 1748. She was opposed to the Mahrathas and was one of those who invited the Afghan invader, Ahmad Shah Abdali, to India. Though she had made a pact with the Ruhela despoiler, Ghulam Qadir, to place her grandson, Bidar Bakht, on the throne, yet she was subjected to grossest indignities by him (22 August 1788). Her mansion was also dug up for hidden wealth.
