Helen Keller

Helen Keller, (1880-1968). US social worker. Although left blind and deaf by an illness at the age of 19 months, she learned to read, write, and speak with the help of her mentor, Anne Sullivan. She graduated from Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1904. A determined and courageous woman, she travelled all over the world, giving lectures and campaigning for improvement in the teaching of the physically handicapped.
