Sir Frederick Banting

 

Sir Frederick Banting (1891-1941). Canadian medical scientist. In 1921, while .working at the University of Toronto, he and Charles Best discovered insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas that is either obtained from animals or synthesized for use in treating diabetes. Banting was a joint winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine, sharing his portion of the prize with Best.
