“Why does the sky appear red or orange in colour at sun-sets?” Important Questions and Answers for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

Why does the sky appear red or orange in colour at sun-sets?

At sunset, the sunlight has to travel a longer distance through the atmosphere before it reaches us. By the time it reaches the lower atmosphere near the earth’s surface, most of its colours are scattered. Only the light with longer wavelength like red and orange are left. The dust particles scatter these red and orange lights and the sky appears reddish-orange.
