Soyra Bai Shirko

Soyra Bai Shirko, d. 1681, MahrGtha princess. She was one of the wives of Shivaji whom he married in 1660. She was the mother of his son Rajaram (b. 14 Feb 1770) who was only 10 when her husband died (1680). She placed her son on the throne, who was soon ousted by his elder brother, Shambuji. In August 1681, she formed a conspiracy to poison the new king but was caught along with the supporters. She was also accused of poisoning her husband, a year and a half earlier, and put to a painful death. She also had a daughter. Dipa Bai, who was married to Visaji Rao, a Mahratha chief.
