Sir Malcolm Sargent

Sir Malcolm Sargent, (1895-1967). British conductor. Sargent studied at the Royal College of Organists and became Britain’s youngest ever doctor of music. In 1921 he made his conducting debut at a Promenade Concert. Besides teaching at the Royal College of Music, he conducted the Royal Choral Society and the BBC Symphony Orchestra (1950-57). He was conductor-in-chief of the Promenade Concerts, for which he is particularly remembered, and was knighted in 1947.
