Short Biography, Paragraph, Essay on “Aas Kaur” Short Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduate Classes

Aas Kaur

Aas Kaur, d. 1823, Sikh princess. Daughter of Gurdas Singh of Chattah in Punjab, she was married to Sahib Singh, the ruler of Patiala, in 1792, and bore him a son, Karam Singh, in 1797. She was a very ambitious lady, and succeeded in ousting Sahib Kaur, the sister of the Maharaja, from his favour. In 1807, she was involved in a bitter dispute with her husband for which the intervention of Ranjit Singh was sought. Though an agreement was made through the grant of a Jagir to her, she continued to be hostile to her husband and ultimately entered into agreement with the British who removed her husband from power, and made her the sole authority (1812). After the death of her husband in 1813, she again came in power at the request of her son, but she quarrelled with her son too, and was ultimately retired to her Jagir in 1823. Her disputes with her husband and her son made Patiala into a British vassal.
