Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, (1948- ). British popular composer. His first musical was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (1968), written to be performed by children. This work marked the beginning of his collaboration with the librettist Tim Rice, which continued  with the highly successful musicals Jesus Christ Superstar (1970) and Evita (1978). Lloyd Webber then Used a series of different librettists for Cats (1981), based on poems .by T. S. Eliot, Starlight Express OK The Phantom of the Opera (1987), and Sunset Boulevard (1993). In 1.993 he had five shows running simultane-Ously in London’s West End. He has also composed Variations (1977), an instrumental work for cello and rock band, and a Requiem (1985).
