“Why is the earth’s gravity less at the equator than nearer the poles?” Important Questions and Answers for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

Why is the earth’s gravity less at the equator than nearer the poles?

The earth is not completely spherical but is slightly bulged at the equator. Here the surface of the earth (periphery of earth) is farther away from its centre and that is why the force of gravity of earth acting near the equator is less than it is at the north and south poles.
