Why is the number of meteorites striking the moon’s surface larger than that on earth?

A large number of meteorites strike the moons surface because it does not have an atmosphere of its own. On the other hand, most of the meteors burn off completely in the earth’s atmosphere due to friction and only a few can reach the earth’s surface.
