Why do plants look green?

The colour of an object is actually the colour of light which it reflects  out of the seven colours of white light falling on it. When the light falls on plants which perform photosynthesis, they absorb mainly violet and red colours of the sunlight, which is reflected back to our eyes by the plants, the green colour is predominate. That is why the plants appear green to our eyes.
